Clifton has long been an advocate for Cherokee heritage and traditions. His campaign will focus on strengthening the Cherokee Nation by advocating for tribal farmers and ranchers, preserving Cherokee culture, enhancing educational opportunities, ensuring accessible healthcare for all citizens, defending tribal water rights and land preservation.

Clifton previously ran for Tribal Council in 2017 against the current Cherokee Tribal Council Speaker Mike Shambaugh.  When endorsing Clifton, Speaker Shambaugh said, “Since that campaign, Clifton and I have become good friends.  We share a vision for what the Cherokee Nation can be.”
